A message regarding our contests

Hello there,

You may have noticed some changes to Amuso recently and we’d like to take a few minutes to explain some of them to you.

We have taken the decision to remove all photo and video contests from the site. We were simply not reaching the number of viewers and participants we had hoped, even though many of you were creating some great contests and entries. I’m sure some of you will be sad to see them go, but we see a huge opportunity to develop social games in other areas. During our recent tests with Trivia Games, it became clear that the overwhelming majority of you really enjoyed playing such fast, exciting and social games, and we are thrilled about the possibilities for creating some amazing games in this area. We’re not ruling out bringing photo and video contests back to life in the future, so please go on expressing yourselves, flaunting your talents for the world to see :)

Our focus is now totally on developing Trivia Star – one of the world’s first multiplayer online Trivia games that you can play for cash. In the game you can play against up to Four other players in real time, answering a series of questions to see who will take the cash prize for being the smartest. It’s fast, exciting and social, and we cannot wait to hear your feedback!

You can Play Trivia Star here!

Amuso’s “Cuisine”: Twitter as the bite-size snack, blogging as the full meal

This is a guest post from one of our interns, Marika Nīmante. She is working with us over the Summer and has written an interesting insight into the role Twitter is playing in Online Marketing.

Amuso’s “Cuisine”: Twitter as the bite-size snack, blogging as the full meal
It will not be a story about high-tech tomatoes, a mysterious milk or supers-cucumbers. This story will be about working in Amuso’s “cuisine”, sharing ideas of marketing recipes, where I’ve understood, how the business ‘meal’ is made; and what are main ingredients of a long-term marketing strategy.
Some marketing bloggers, including me, are swooning over Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Delicious and other instant, fast–paced social communities lately, because they are still the single best place to build a well – trafficked home for yourself or your business on the web. Blogging is alive and well, despite what the cynics say – look around at all the people creating new content and the millions reading it daily.

New London Office

Amuso.com has moved into it’s new London HQ, a lovely office at 41 Great Pulteney Street in Soho (Pics to follow!). The bulk of the team is still based in Central Barcelona (well, when we’re not chilling out on the beach that is…), but our new official base in Soho places us right at the heart of where the action is. Onwards and upwards!

Barcelona, a hotbed for startups

This is a guest post from one of our valued interns, Karin Axelsson:  thanks Karin!

====

Barcelona is the perfect city to be located in for Amuso, and any other fresh, cutting edge, innovative start-up. The city has been drawing entrepreneurial spirits for decades and is a boiling pot of inspiration, motivation and international influences.

Moreover the quite obvious attractions of the city; (and that draws thousands of visitors every year) the 4.5 kilometres coastline, Mediterranean climate, one of the worlds best nightlife scenes, a grand cultural heritage, fine cuisine, architecture, great football and so on…  the city offers something else.

Being a melting pot for people and organizations from all over the world, the metropolitan city provides a business climate ideal for entrepreneurs. The dynamics of the city enables a varied and constant flow of people, influences, ideas and inputs. This, alongside with the long tradition of entrepreneurial activity (Barcelona was one of the earliest cities in Europe to begin industrialization) makes Barcelona super interesting for creative and innovative start-ups.

Amuso Welcomes Bill Houghton to its product team!

We have a new member of the team starting this week at Amuso – Bill Houghton from the good old US of A. Bill has spent 15+ years creating innovative products and strategies for online, mobile and iTV platforms. A former director of product strategy at AOL Entertainment (now MediaGlow), he’s been the creative force behind some of the Web’s most successful products, including Moviefone, AOL Music, and Games.com.

We look forward to a long future creating fun and innovative products together – welcome aboard Bill!

New partnerships for Amuso

It’s been a wild time here at Amuso over the last few weeks -  we’ve been putting the finishing touches to our latest game, Trivia Star, and we’re excited to announce some amazing partnerships. The game itself (if you haven’t already played it!), is a multiplayer trivia Flash game, that gives you the chance to compete against your friends in real time for cash prizes. We’re one of the very first companies to have applied a cash model to a skill game with such broad appeal as Trivia, and we’re proud to say that as part of the game’s launch we will be deploying custom versions of Trivia Star with MTV UK, the Metro newspaper network, Bebo , and Hip Hop lifestyle network Rap Basement.

These partnerships represent an exciting step forward, and we’ll be announcing more very soon. For now though, you can enjoy playing Trivia for cash by following these links!

Amuso mentioned in the Daily Telegraph

Amuso is mentioned in the business section of today’s Daily Telegraph, as part of an article about an newly relaunched website for finding entrepreneurial talent. Enternships.com provides ambitious and dynamic students and graduates with an opportunity to learn about business and enterprise through work placements in entrepreneurial and innovative environments, from start-ups to global venture funds around the world. I originally found Amuso through an advertisement on the site, and urge all graduates and students with an entrepreneurial streak to check it out for some fantastic opportunities to gain experience in some of the most dynamic work environments out there!

Social Gaming Scores in the Recession

Business Week has just posted an interesting write up about the sucess of social gaming companies such as Zynga, which are thriving in the current economic climate.

“The number of people playing social games is expected to surge to 250 million in 2009, from 50 million in 2008, by some industry estimates. During recessions, people tend to look for low-cost entertainment, often staying at home. Many social games are free; often even power users pay less than $50 a month”

If you’re new to the social gaming phenomenon, this article is a great explanation of why more and more people are seeking their gaming experiences online, and not on traditional gaming platforms such as the Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360.

“Social gaming is the new casual”

FT.com recently published an article about the spectacular growth of social gaming, fueled by the growth of Facebook’s app platform. It makes interesting reading for anyone operating in this space, and demonstrates what an exciting time it is for companies like ours to be designing the next generation of web experiences!

”It’s not the story that we want to tell as game developers that’s important anymore, it’s being able to design an environment in which players can interact and express themselves and tell their own story”
